Sonia Madelyn (Bogart) Spencer, 81, of Lowell passed away peacefully on Thursday December 10, 2020. Sonia was born in Albany, NY but she spent most of her life in Gaston County and she considered it home. Sonia is the daughter of the late Dorothy (Brown) and Arthur Bogart. Sonia was a Christian woman who was totally devoted to her family. She loved her grandchildren and children immensely. She worked in the Day Care industry until she retired. Her grandchildren felt she was the consummate grandmother with one grandchild commenting that she was born to be a grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death are her parents, a son, Gary Spencer and a daughter-in-law, Christie Spencer. Left to cherish their memories of Sonia are her children, Laura Abernathy and her husband Marc, Henry “Hank” Spencer and his wife Rena, George Spencer and his wife Jan and Daren Spencer. Grieving the loss of their grandmother are, Henry, Marcus, Sophie, Megan, Holly and Lucas. She leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kelsey and two great-great grandchildren. A celebration of Sonia’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday December 19, 2020 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 412 South Main Street, Stanley. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Mt. Holly. Pastor Johnny Sawyer will offer words of encouragement and hope to those that gather to remember Sonia.
