

Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Eltingville in 1973 and settled in Rossville in the mid-1980s.
Mr. Meola worked as a test desk technician for Verizon for many years. He retired in 1999.
He earned an associate’s degree from the former Staten Island Community College, and he graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn.
Mr. Meola was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing, having caught blue marlins while in Mexico. He also liked taking trips to Cape May, N.J., where he had a summer home.
“He loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren,” said his wife of 41 years, the former Kathryn Koenderman. “He was very good to his nieces and nephews also.”
Mr. Meloa served in the U.S. Army as a tank driver and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was honored with two Purple Hearts.
He was a member of the Eltingville Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn, surviving are a son, Albert M. III; a daughter, Kara Cohen; a sister, Lynda O’Neil, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
