Alice Thelma Evensen

April 27, 1929 - March 7, 2026

Alice T. Evensen, 96, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026 in her home in Westerleigh on Staten Island.

A resident of Annadale, Port Richmond, and Westerleigh, she is survived by her loving children Martin and his wife Mary Ellen, and Ruth and her husband Steven; her grandchildren Justine, Jonathan and his wife Alyssa, and Andrew; and her great grandchildren Jonathan and Anthony. She is preceded in death by her husband, Trygve, and her sisters, Mildred and Edith.

Alice graduated from Tottenville High School in 1946 and attended Drake’s Business School. She went on to work for multiple businesses before establishing her career as a legal secretary for a law firm on Staten Island. In retirement she was an active member of AARP and was the administrator of multiple estates.

She was a devout Lutheran and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Our Saviour Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church. At Our Saviour Lutheran she was a former member of the church council and president of the Ladies Aid Society.

Alice spent many of her summers in the Adirondacks at her family home in the Town of Day on the Great Sacandaga Lake. There she enjoyed her time on the lake with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins. In the Adirondacks she would also visit her sister Edie, who owned a home in Indian Lake, patron town wide garage sales, and cultivate her garden every year.

She was also a proud Norwegian, and had the opportunity to visit her ancestral home for her 80th and 85th birthday with her family. There she was able to see the homes of her mother and father, who emigrated from Grimstad and Tvedestrad in the early 1900’s. Other Norwegian culture that she enjoyed with her family was the annual tradition of making krumkakke at Christmas, praying “I Jesu Navn” before meals, and savoring nøkkelost and gjetost.

A visitation will be held in her honor at Harmon Funeral Home on Tuesday March 10th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday at 10:30 AM.
