Andrea was born in Farini, Piacenza, Italy on November 29, 1950 to the late Giovanna Camia and Benvenuto Scagnelli. He later made his home in New York where he went on to meet his wife Stephanie (née Zakrzewski) with whom he recently celebrated forty years of marriage along with his son AJ Scagnelli, bonus daughter Madalaina Vellucci, son in law Christopher Vellucci and cherished grandson Christopher Joseph. He will forever be remembered as a gentle soul and much loved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in law, uncle and friend.
Andrea retired after a successful career rising through the ranks as a Cement and Concrete Laborer, Foreman, Superintendent and President of the Cement and Concrete Union Local 20. It was there that he mentored many, especially his son, AJ, who continues in his fathers’ footsteps. Andrea was part of and lead numerous job sites that transformed the New York City skyline. Most notably the World Trade Center, Brooklyn Metro-Tech Plaza, and the AOL Time-Warner building where he received awards of recognition for his leadership and completion of the site.
Andrea enjoyed spending time with his family and friends- especially his grandson Christopher. They shared many hobbies including swimming, fishing, bicycle riding, attending school and Boy Scouting events, cheering on the NY Mets, talking stats and gardening. Andrea took great pride in his garden and meticulously maintaining his grass and landscaping. Summers saw countess harvests of different varieties of tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and zucchini which he joyfully shared with neighbors and friends.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Andrea’s name to your Cancer charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. The family thanks you for your outpouring of love, support and prayers throughout this difficult time.
