

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Angelina Monasseri, 94, of Castleton Corners, a retired postal employee, loving matriarch of three generations who is remembered for her cooking skills and devotion to her family, died Wednesday in Clove Lakes Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Castleton Corners, where she resided for six weeks.
Born Angelina Sigismondo in Brooklyn, Mrs. Monasseri moved with her family to Meiers Corners as a teenager. She later settled in Castleton Corners.
Mrs. Monasseri first worked as a seamstress.
In 1964, she began working as a postal carrier at the main post office on Manor Road. According to her family, she was the first female postal carrier on the Island. After many promotions, she retired in 1984 from the Church Street Post Office in Manhattan, as equal opportunity specialist, overseeing employee grievances.
She was a member of the Holy Family Church Senior Center in Westerleigh.
Mrs. Monasseri was an excellent cook who enjoyed preparing and sharing Sunday dinners with her family.
A great dancer, she enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling, she was especially fond of Hawaii and family vacations.
But being surrounded by family brought her the greatest joy. She doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren and delighted the time she spent with them.
She was a parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners.
Her husband Alfred, died in 1973.
She is survived by her four daughters, Theresa Gordon, Marilyn Testa-Smith, Marguerite Siegel and Denise Alton; her brother, William Sigismondo, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey Funeral Home, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Teresa's R.C. Church, both in Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
