Ann Johnson, 96
Raised family in Castleton Corners, great-grandmother
Ann Johnson (nee Forsyth), 96, passed away peacefully at home in New Brighton due to natural causes on May 14, 2020.
Born in Staten Island and raised in Ward Hill, Ann was a graduate of Curtis High School. During World War II, she worked for the War Department in Manhattan. She married William L. Johnson in 1946, living in Stapleton and Dongan Hills before settling in Castleton Corners to raise their family. They resided there for 40 years before retiring to Brick, N.J., in 1993.
Ann was a dedicated homemaker in her children's youth, active in several mother's groups, including at her family's local parish, St. Rita's. Coming from a large family of seven children, she particularly enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She was known for her keen fashion sense, and was a home seamstress who regularly made clothes for herself and her children. She served as a trip planner for her neighborhood seniors group, and enjoyed traveling to the Jersey Shore, Texas, and Florida.
After raising her family, Ann returned to work, first at E.J. Korvette's and then at St. Vincent's Hospital, where she was a manager in the business office for 25 years before retiring in the mid-1980s.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine A. Johnson; her sisters, Mary Vignec, Joan Kuebler, and Rita Betsch; her sister-in-law, Eileen Forsyth; her daughter-in-law, Leslie Langworthy; her four beloved grandchildren, Thomas, Amy, Matthew, and Jenna; and her great-granddaughter, Violet.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, William L. Johnson; and son, Gary W. Johnson; her sisters, Irene O'Neill and Betty Hickson, and her brother, Robert Forsyth
