

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Anthony Cibelli, 88, of Dongan Hills, a retired firefighter, died on Wednesday in the Carmel Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills, where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.
Born in Grant City, he graduated from New Dorp High School and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sproston in the South Pacific during World War II. He moved to New Brighton in 1949 and to Dongan Hills in 1955.
Mr. Cibelli was a firefighter for more than 20 years, retiring in 1978 from Engine 152 in Rosebank. He belonged to the FDNY’s Columbia Association and St. Sylvester’s R.C. Church, Concord. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and taking trips to Atlantic City.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Jean DeRenzi; two sons, George and Glenn; a sister, Patricia Smith, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be tomorrow from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ann’s R.C. Church, both in Dongan Hills. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
