

Born and raised in Rosebank, he graduated from Port Richmond High School, and later moved to Westerleigh. After he and Donna Contino wed in 2004, the couple settled in South Beach.
Mr. Ficara worked as an EMT with the city Fire Department for 23 years, until retiring in 2010. He was among those responding to Ground Zero after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
“He’d take the shirt off his back for anyone,” said his wife, Donna. “He was loved by so many and was always there for people. I will miss him terribly and he will never be forgotten. Heaven’s gained another angel.”
Mr. Ficaro was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the New York Mets and Rangers, as well as the Miami Dolphins.
He also loved playing poker and derived great pleasure from fixing cars.
Surviving, along with Donna, his wife of 10 years, are his stepsons, Frank and Joseph Rubano; his mother, Nancy Ficara; his brother, Joseph, and his sister, Maryann Veres.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s R.C. Church, both Dongan Hills. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
