Anthony T. Venturella, 80 July 26, 1937 – March 29, 2018
Anthony “Ace” Venturella, a lifetime New York Yankees fan, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2018, Opening Day, with family by his side.
The eldest son of Anthony and Mary (Molly), Tony was born in the Bronx and came to Staten Island as a young boy. He was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School and St. Peter's Boys High School. After high school, he attended St. Peter's College, leaving to serve in the Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1961 and worked several years with Otis Elevator before joining the New York Police Department. He retired out of the Applicant Investigation division of the NYPD in 1986 after 22 years of service. While on the department, he pursued and received his undergraduate and MBA from Wagner College. After the police department, he worked for American Express as a fraud investigator.
He enjoyed all local sports, most especially the Yankees, and was renowned for his extensive knowledge of sports trivia. He was a fan and collector of all music but his favorite musical artist was Frank Sinatra, having amassed a large collection of Ol' Blue Eyes's records, movies and books. An accomplished pianist, he learned to play at an early age and never met a piano he didn't like. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed many Wednesday morning rounds at Silver Lake with good friends. He enjoyed reading and learning new things every day of his life. He loved a good pun and a bad joke.
He was the proud husband of JoAnn (Aagesen), having celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2016. In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by his brother, Dominic, his sons, Anthony and Edward, his daughter, Christine D'Arbanville and his son-in-law, Michael D'Arbanville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John (Jocko) and George, and his sisters, Joan and Margaret.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Casey's Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island, NY. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 4 at 10 AM, also at Casey's.
