

The lifelong Staten Islander was born and raised Barbara M. Bohanek in Castleton Corners, and graduated from Curtis High School.
She later lived in Sunnyside, but returned to her native community in 2000.
Mrs. Demenchuk's career was diverse. She worked in the billing office of the former Doctors' Hospital, Concord, and at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze. Earlier, she had worked for the Home Insurance Company in Manhattan, at the former Bayley Seton Hospital, Clifton, as a cashier, and at Sears in the Staten Island Mall.
An avid sports fan, she enjoyed attending New York Jets, Mets and Ranger games. She bowled in a league and loved attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Mrs. Demenchuk treasured her family and loved spending time with them. They will remember her outgoing personality and her zest for life, they said.
She was a parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners.
Surviving are her husband of 26 years, Thomas; her son, David Johnson; her daughter, Kristen Johnson; a brother, James Bohanek; a sister, Patricia Pogan, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
