Former Staten Islander Barbara J. Esposito, 64, a former cafeteria worker and secretary who loved to cook all things Italian, died Sunday in the Halisax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., of cancer.
Born Barbara Lombardi in Rosebank, she attended Curtis High School. She married Joseph Sciarra in 1969, and shortly after the couple moved to South Beach. In 1995, Mrs. Esposito relocated to Smyrna Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Esposito was a cafeteria worker at St. John Villa Academy in Arrochar for 11 years, but left the school in 1993 to work as a receptionist for Hapag-Lloyd, a global liner shipping company with offices worldwide. Following her move to Florida, Mrs. Esposito worked for 10 years as a secretary at H&R Block’s Smyrna Beach office.
She enjoyed going on cruises with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, sewing blankets and curtains, reading novels and cooking plenty of Italian food.
“She was funny, loving, caring and always helpful,” said her daughter, Stacy Franzreb. “She touched the hearts of everyone she came into contact with.”
Her husband, Joseph, died in 1993.
In addition to her daughter, Stacy, surviving are her husband of 18 years, Neil Esposito; her mother, Pauline Goldstein; three sisters, Denise Goldstein, Wendy Goldstein, and Sandra Lombardi; two brothers, Gary and Paul Goldstein; four stepdaughters, Theresa, Susan, Sarah and Tracy Esposito; two stepsons Robert and Frankie Esposito and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
