Betty (Benedetta) Darcy, 91, born Sept. 23, 1926, the daughter of the late Louisa and Nicholas Mezzacappa, passed away on Sept. 14, 2018, in Staten Island. She resided in West Brighton, S.I., her entire life.
Betty was married to Joseph D. Darcy, who passed away on Sept. 6, 2004. They were married 49 years.
She is survived by her son, David J. Darcy and daughter-in-law, Betty; grandchildren, Mack and Julia Darcy, all of Randolph, N.J.; sister, Olimpia Delle Donne; nephews, Brian, Drew, and Keith Delle Donne.
Betty was a member of Calvary Presybterian Church, S.I., and the Business and Professional Women's Club of S.I. She was also a member of Soroptimist International of S.I., a board member of Alice Austen House of S.I., and a volunteer at YMCA North Shore.
Betty was the recipient of the Peter Clarius Memorial Award when the Staten Island Inter-Agency Council for Aging honored her and her husband for volunteer service in 2000.
She was employed by the NYC Parks and Recreation Department as a recreational director at Silver Lake Park for 40-plus years. She was known as "Ms. Betty" while employed as a nursery school teacher at Silver Lake Park.
Betty was a graduate of Curtis High School, and earned a bachelor's degree from Wagner College.
The wake at Harmon Funeral Home is Sunday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. The funeral service is at Calvary Presbyterian Church on Monday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m.
