

Benny was born and raised on Staten Island, a proud native of the borough. He attended Curtis High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. His passion for sports was evident from a young age, and he distinguished himself on the football field playing for Curtis High School, the 47 Club, and the Dejoys Association. Additionally, he displayed his talent on the baseball diamond, representing Assumption Church, the Granito Smith Post, and the Young REO Association.
An avid supporter of the New York Yankees and Giants, Benny's enthusiasm for sports extended beyond his own participation. He was known for his unwavering dedication to his teams, cheering them on with fervor through victories and defeats alike.
Benny dedicated over 22 years of his life in service to the City of New York. He worked tirelessly for various departments, including the Parks Department, the Board of Education, and the Police Department. He concluded his career with the NYPD, serving in the 9th Precinct in Manhattan, where he made enduring contributions to the safety and well-being of the community he served.
Predeceased by his father Salvatore DiStefano and mother Antoinette, Benny is survived by his sister Joan Perillo, niece Joann Otto and her husband Michael, nieces Diane and Crystal, longtime companion Joan Laub, and his cherished dog Freedom. His memory will forever be treasured by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation for Benny will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 53 St Marks Pl, Staten Island, NY 10301, followed by a committal service at St. Peter's Cemetery, 52 Tyler Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10310.
