Betty attended Port Richmond High School and graduated in 1952. Her steady devotion to family was the constant center of her life, expressed in countless everyday ways and in the traditions she cherished—especially at Christmastime, her favorite holiday to share with family and friends.
A devoted wife to her husband, Fran, Betty built a home marked by care, constancy, and generosity. She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Florence Gertrude Olson, and her brother, Charlie Olson. She is survived by her sister, Florence Studer; her children, Francis Harty, Craig Harty (Kathy), and Melanie Falanga (Allan); her grandchildren, Christopher, Alex, Amanda, Nicholas, Connor, Patrick, and Liam; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty’s giving spirit reached well beyond her own household. She volunteered at multiple local schools and was a founding member and trustee of Have A Heart Foundation. For 57 years, she served Boy Scout Troop 8, earning numerous service accommodations in recognition of her long and faithful commitment. Many will also remember her for the warmth she brought to every gathering—along with what was often called “the best” chocolate chip cookies around.
In quieter moments, Betty found comfort and joy in knitting and crocheting, creating with patience and skill—gifts of time and love that reflected who she was.
