Carmela Tesi (nee Cucciniello), 92, loving mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away peacefully on January 28th at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Altripalda Avellino, Italy on March 17, 1930, she came from a large family of thirteen brothers and sisters, where hard work started at an early age.
She married the late Gennaro Tesi and after honeymooning in Rome, Italy, settled in Tompkinsville, Staten Island in April 1969. A devout Catholic her entire life, she attended church and prayed to Padre Pio regularly. When she became ill, she would listen to mass daily on Radio Maria at home. She was a pioneer of hard work who loved America and its traditions and holidays, including Thanksgiving and St. Patrick’s Day (which was her birthday). She would celebrate her birthday with family and enjoy corned beef and cabbage.
She was employed by several different companies in the garment industry for many years, where she was responsible for assembling military uniforms and suspenders. Later in life, she was employed by Silver Lake Nursing Home, working in the Institutional Housekeeping department until her retirement. Carmela devoted all her time to family and friends and loved attending family parties. She loved cooking, baking (her specialty was making zeppoles), and outdoor gardening. All who knew her admired her strength and courage. Rest In Peace My Queen. Carmela is survived by her devoted son Pasquale, daughter-in-law Josephine, grandsons Gennaro, Marco and Joseph, brothers Cosma and Antonio Cucciniello, and sister Rosa La Marca.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 202 at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, located at 10 Austin Pl. Staten Island, New York 10304. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery.
