On Saturday, January 16, 2021, Carmen Loncle (Memela), loving mother of four children, passed away at age 94. Carmen was born on May 25, 1926 in Baitoa, Santiago, Dominican Republic to Vidal Arismendi Pineda and Josefina (née Perez) Pineda. She came to the United States in 1938 and grew up in Hell’s Kitchen. She attended school at Textile High School where she met her husband, Jean Loncle. They moved to Bellerose, Long Island where they lived for six years. Jean joined the Border Patrol and they moved to El Centro, CA, Rouses Point, New York and finally, in 1967, they settled on Staten Island.
Carmen worked for Kanematsu-Gosho, a Japanese import-export company for 20 years. She was very popular with her co-workers and remained friends with many of them long after her retirement. For many years she enjoyed having her Japanese friends join her family for Thanksgiving dinner. Carmen was a wonderful cook and felt there was always room for one more at her table. Family dinners were celebrated every weekend and she looked forward to having all her children and grandchildren present. She was also an avid Bridge player and was a member of the Staten Island Bridge Club for decades. In 2011 she was recognized for achieving the rank of Silver Life Master. She had many other interests, but she was happiest cooking for her family and friends, especially at Christmas, and planting flowers and vegetables in her garden.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents and four of her five siblings: Henry, Freddy, Franklin and Clara and her former husband, Jean. She is survived by her sister Josephine Munoz, her children Claude, Linda Randall and her husband, Frank, Diane, Joy Lancis and her husband, Cesar and her four grandchildren, David and his wife, Tamara, Michael and Jonathan Loncle and Melanie Randall as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was always a loving mother and she will be sorely missed. We love you dearly Mom.
