

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Staten Islander Carol L. Woodard, 72, of Parkland, Fla., a retired high school teacher and a loving mother and grandmother, died Sunday in Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Born Carol L. Zolot in Manhattan, she grew up in the Bronx. She moved to Mariners Harbor in 1975 and to Great Kills in 1986, living there until relocating to Florida in 2012.
Mrs. Woodard earned her bachelor's degree in education from City College of New York and received her master's degree in education from Hunter College, both Manhattan.
She had a 25-year career as a teacher at Port Richmond High School. She retired in 2002, and then worked for five years teaching math at the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook.
Mrs. Woodard enjoyed playing cards and mahjong, the outdoors, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mitchell, in 2006.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Billy Ray; her daughter, Brenda Hale; her brother, Charles Zolot, and a grandson.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in United Hebrew Cemetery, Richmond. Arrangements are being handled by the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills.
