

Born Caroline Massa in New Brighton, she moved with her family as an infant to Fundi, Italy. She returned to New Brighton at the age of 13.
In 1953, she and her husband Frank built their custom dream home in Sunnyside.
Mrs. Carlo worked for 34 years as a seamstress on the Island including at Uniforms by Ostwald in New Brighton.
She was an excellent cook who was known for her homemade ravioli, struffoli, stuffed artichokes and manicotti. She hosted Sunday dinners and brought joy to others through her hospitality. Her home was always a social gathering place for relatives, friends and many visiting missionaries.
She also designed and crafted beautiful clothing for herself and her family, as well as knitting and crocheting many unique items.
Known for her strength and perseverance, Mrs. Carlo survived cancer at the age of 66 and remained in remission for the rest of her life.
"She was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that anyone could ever ask for. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew her," said her son Frank A. Carlo.
A devoted lifelong member of Christian Pentecostal Church, Concord, Mrs. Carlo was active in the Dorcas Fellowship, Sunday school, choir, and the fundraising and home visitation ministry. In addition, her husband Frank was a former associate pastor and son John, is currently serving as senior pastor there.
She was predeceased in death by her husband of 70 years, Frank in 2010, her son Frank Jr. in 1944, and her great-granddaughter, Sandra Lizeth in 2014.
In addition to her son Frank, she is survived by her sons Rev. Dr. John Carlo and Gerald; her daughter Carol Ann Strobel, 10 grandchildren and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Christian Pentecostal Church, Concord. Burial will be in Silver Mount Cemetery, Silver Lake. Arrangements are being handled by the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners.
