Celia Elizabeth Nalty

Celia Elizabeth Fyfe was born October 29th, 1944 to a loving couple, Stanley E. Fyfe, an attorney, and Cislene Fyfe, a seamstress, in a beautiful home in Havendale, Kingston, Jamaica. Celia later had the kinship of a younger brother, Francis Joseph.They grew up together and had a wonderful childhood in a loving home. She attended a private prep school named Ragnar, as well as Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy for Girls in the 1950’s. She studied history, Latin and music, and later in 1995, proudly became the President of Alpha Academy Alumni Association in NY. A classically trained pianist and singer, she continued to study piano, music theory and later developed extraordinary typewriting skills. Soon thereafter she met a young designer and architect named Carlton Errol Nalty in Jamaica. They were married and in 1967, migrated to the United States to chase “the American dream”. A cozy apartment in Brooklyn became Carlton and Celia Nalty’s first home. Soon thereafter, they moved to an apartment on Elm Street on Staten Island. They were told it was a good place to raise children and within a good school district. From 1969 to 1970, she gave birth to Carlton Errol, Jr. and Brian Anthony and later worked as a secretary while her husband took graduate classes at Columbia University. They worked together in NYC to support their family and dreams. Celia was heavily involved in the church over the next 3 decades, as a choir member and became a very proud pipe organist throughout the 80’s at Sacred Heart Church. She became a Eucharistic Minister and later joined the congregation and choir, at St. Mary’s Church, which she loved. Celia enjoyed traveling with her family, and had been to many countries including England, Panama, and loved taking cruises to countless Caribbean islands. She often admitted that her homeland Jamaica was the best! She was a proud Jamaican and equally proud American. She had many great friends that she at times called sisters. Celia was a renowned chef with incredible Caribbean culinary skills. She possessed an incredible command of the English language, and was an excellent orator who loved to read at Church. Celia was giving, thoughtful, helpful, and kind, with the biggest heart! Courageous, elegant, eloquent, classy, loyal, loving, compassionate, dynamic and beautiful are only a few words to describe Celia. She was a mother to Errol and Brian’s closest friends, who always referred to her as “Ma” or “Mom Celia” which “warmed the cockles of her heart.” Celia leaves behind, her two sons, Carlton Errol Francis Nalty, Jr., and Brian Anthony Nalty; her daughter-in-law Sheylah Alava Nalty; her grandchildren Lexia Helena Nalty, Arianna Jade Nalty, Blake Alexander Nalty, and her great-granddaughter, Melanie Nalty. She also leaves her dearest cousins Trevor Fyfe, James Fyfe; her nieces and nephews, Peta Allison, Andrew Fyfe, Lisa Fyfe and Vanessa Fyfe; many grand nieces nephews as well.
