He was born and raised in Westerleigh, attended St. Peter's Boys High School, and moved to Meiers Corners in 1989.
Mr. Farley was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany from 1959 to 1963, family said.
He was employed as a pumpman at Port Mobil in Charleston, retiring in the early 1990s. He also worked part-time as a bartender, first at the former Victory Lanes bowling alley, and for the past ten years at Schaffer's Tavern in Meiers Corners.
"He was just wonderful, a very loving husband and father, and very protective of his family," said his wife of 23 years, the former Barbara Lee Yates. "He was a big old giant Teddy Bear, a funny man with a dry sense of humor."
Mr. Farley enjoyed salt-water fishing and trips to casinos, and was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Barbara, are his daughters, Eileen Farley-Watford, Kathryn Giovinazzo, Allison Farley-Cuddy, and Melissa Pair; his brother Cornelius (Neil); sisters Elaine Russo-Yourgel, Bridget Farley, and Lisa Farley, and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home in Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, West Brighton. Arrangements include cremation.
