

Dept. of Sanitation retiree, Army veteran
Charles Romano, 75, a lifelong resident of Dongan Hills passed on Jan. 6, 2018.
He was a graduate of Curtis High School. Mr. Romano was a United States Army veteran having served in Germany and France, as well as stateside. Following his military service, he worked in construction until joining the NYC Dept of Sanitation from which he retired in 1999 after 29 years.
Mr. Romano is survived by his children, Charles Jr. and Marianne, and was a loving grandfather of Charles Bernard and Nicole Francine. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Jr. and sister-in law, Fran, as well as many cousins. He was the oldest son of the late Frank Romano Sr. and Bernadina (Raia) Romano, was a brother to the late Thomas, Jack, Patrick, and Bernard, and former husband to Anna (Grumino ) whom he remained friends with for over 40 years.
A Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Richmond Town.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
