Chone Ken Chen was a board-certified neurologist in the states of New York and Pennsylvania. Dr. Chen was born on May 13, 1960, in Yangon, Myanmar, and succumbed to Lung Cancer and Covid-19 at the age of sixty-one on January 18, 2022, at the Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island. The youngest of the five Chen brothers, Dr. Chen came to the United States at the age of eight. Dr. Chen attended St. Francis Xavier School in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where he was inspired to be a doctor helping children of poor families. Dr. Chen entered Brooklyn Technical High School in 1974 to pursue his dream and graduated as the valedictorian in 1978.
After graduation in 1984 from Boston University Medical School's six-year B.A. – M.D. program, Dr. Chen finally realized his dream to be a doctor in child health and development. He was awarded a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland to study neurological disorders and strokes. Dr. Chen returned to his hometown New York City to serve as an attending pediatrician at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn and Beekman Downtown Hospital in Manhattan for over twenty years. His subspecialties included brain birth injuries, cerebral palsy, autistic disorders, seizures, mental retardation & developmental delay.
Dr. Chen spent his leisure time keeping up to date with world history and listening to Chinese and American pop music. Dr. Chen, who was single, is survived by five siblings, three nephews and five nieces. His siblings are Chone Hing aka Edward (Sue) in Danville, CA; Chone Kun aka John (Louise) in Staten Island, NY; Chone Yin aka William (Amy) in Tainan, Taiwan; Chone Naing aka Danny in Brooklyn, NY; and Winnie in Hawthorne, NY.
