Christopher Dillon Micha, aka Chris Dillon, aka The Hero Pup, died on Monday September 10th after a long and valiant battle with drug addiction. Chris hated addiction and suffered greatly because of it, but he never stopped fighting. He was kind and tolerant of those who struggle in life but was much less tolerant of his own struggles.
Chris was a musician, a writer, an artist, a lover of animals and he loved his family enormously especially his brothers E.T. and David and his step-sister Lee and his four nieces Katie, Julia, Lucy and Molly. He had a large family and our history was important to him. He often took on the responsibility of documenting our great family times with photos, recordings and other keepsake projects. If you were lucky enough to get a gift from Chris is was usually well thought out, clever and beautifully crafted.
Christopher’s musical career was varied. He wrote for and fronted the band Das Phrogge and did the same for Zero Charisma. They had several successful CDs. After working with bands for years Chris struck out on his own and recently became known as solo artist The Hero Pup.
Throughout the years Chris worked as a graphic designer for S.I. Borough Hall, multiple political campaigns, The Staten Island Advance, Scholastic Inc., Barking Dogs Art & Design, and was a freelance artist for Sundog Theatre Company and other organizations. He was also an invited participating artist in Why Love/Why Now an Art Exhibition in the Barcelona Forum in Barcelona, Spain.
Chris also was a sound design engineer. He was a graduate of the Institute of Audio Research in New York, was a member of the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP) and the American Engineering Society.
Chris was a quiet man who had difficulty with small-talk but made what he said matter. He didn’t just talk about the weather, he talked about important things, things that mattered, things that made you think. He wanted better things for himself and for everyone else. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
