

Concetta (Connie) Monahan, 52, of Meiers Corners, a retired DEP employee, died Nov. 17, after a long battle with cancer. She was visiting her daughter in Florida when she became gravely ill and was admitted to UAB Medicine Palliative Care and Comfort Unit, Birmingham, Fla., where she was a patient for a month before her death.
The Mariners Harbor native was born Concetta Mirra. She also lived in West Brighton, before settling in Meiers Corners 15 years ago.
She graduated from Port Richmond High School.
Mrs. Monahan's career with the city of New York spanned 25 years. She retired in 2013 as a clerk from the city Department of Environmental Protection, due to illness.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting holiday dinners. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.
Mrs. Monahan is survived by her husband of 33 years, John; her son, Terrence; her daughters, Sharon Monahan-Fitzgerald and Veronica Monahan; her father, Catillo Mirra; her brother, Frank Mirra; her sister, Carolyn Mirra, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Rita's R.C. Church, Meiers Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
