

Daisy Chen- Chi Chien Liu, 105, loving great-grandmother, matriarch, beloved Nai Nai to her grandchildren, mother, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2023 of natural causes. Daisy was born in Shanghai, China on March 13, 1918. She was the only daughter of businessman Zhu-Wan Chien and her homemaker mother, and she had two younger brothers. They lived most of their childhood years with their maternal grandmother (WaiPo). In 1938, she graduated from Wu Jian University in Shanghai with an accounting/finance degree. While working at the German Embassy in Shanghai she met her husband, Paul Tse-Ting Liu. They were married on Easter a few years later and moved to Hong Kong where their only son, Paul Teh-Chiu Liu was born.
Daisy’s husband, T. T. Liu was appointed the Secretary to the Consulate at the Consulate General's Office of the Republic of China in NYC in 1960’s. Daisy and her son were not able to join him until 1966, settling in Haddonfield, New Jersey. The family relocated to Jackson Heights where she began working at the Bulova Watch Company in Queens for more than 25 years in bookkeeping/accounting. Retired in the 80's, she volunteered at the Blind/Mute School for two years before moving to Staten Island to live with her son Paul and daughter in-law Joyce.
A devout Christian her whole life, Daisy was a member of the Staten Island Chinese Christian Church since 1986.
Daisy was well versed in Shanghainese, Mandarin, Cantonese and English. She was predeceased by Tse-Ting Liu, her husband of more than 50 years, and is survived by her son Paul Liu and daughter-in-law Joyce Chung Liu, her grandchildren, Thomas Liu and his wife Teal (Shepley-Blair) Liu, Katherine Liu and her husband Michael Cantor, Peter Liu, her great-grandchildren Oliver Liu and Sydney Louise Cantor.
