Daniel J. Parvis
November 26, 1946 – July 22, 2018
Daniel J. Parvis, 1946-2018, of Dongan Hills, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning. He was 71 years old. He was born and raised in the Corona neighborhood of Queens, to Joseph & Ida Parvis. He was one of four siblings: brothers Louis & Joseph, and a sister, Adele Blumette. Daniel graduated from St. Leo’s School & Newton H.S. in 1965 and 2 years later was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of corporal in the 1st Infantry division as the head gunner of an M102 Howitzer Cannon in an artillery unit. Daniel also fought during the Tet offensive. He received a Purple Heart decoration and was proud of his service. When Daniel returned home, he joined his family’s construction business, Parvis Equipment & Supply Co. He would eventually co-own the business. He married Carmela Petosa in 1969, and they moved to Douglaston, Queens in their first home. His hobbies included playing softball, bowling, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed watching TCM movies, trips to the racetrack, and going out to dinner with family & friends. Daniel is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carmela, a son, Paul, daughter, Lisa, and grandchildren: Paul Jr., Angela, Deanna, and Michael. The Parvis family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Lung Association and American Heart Association. Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Virginia Funeral Chapel. The Wake will be held on Wednesday, Jul 25, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, July 26, 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, Dongan Hills. Interment will follow at Moravian Cemetery.
