David S. Colonnello, Sr., 81, died peacefully on Thursday morning after an eight month illness. Born in Port Richmond, David moved to Great Kills as a child. He attended PS 8 and was a graduate of New Dorp High School.
David worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for 33 years. After retirement, he taught music (saxophone, piano, clarinet, and guitar) at the former Trogan School of Music, Castleton Corners, and also gave private music lessons to many students throughout the island.
David was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Eltingville, where he played saxophone in the church's worship music team.
He enjoyed all sports. Through the years, he played and coached baseball, softball, and hockey. He was an avid New York Yankees, Giants, and Rangers fan.
David will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Georgine "Jean" nee Muller, his sons, David (JoAnne) and John (LeeAnna), his granddaughters, Lucia, Sophia and Isla who adored their "Poppi", his sister-in-law, Nancy Muller, several nephews and nieces, and many friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Margaret, and his brothers, Daniel, Michael, and Anthony.
A visitation for David will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 and Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey-McCallum Rice Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will occur Monday, May 20, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Calvary Assembly of God, 4055 Richmond Ave, New York, NY 10312. A committal service will occur Monday, May 20, 2024 from 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM at Ocean View The Cemetery Beautiful, 3315 Amboy Rd, New York, NY 10306.
