Born in Travis, Miss Mohlenhoff lived in the family farmhouse in Travis, a historic building owned Mohlenhoff and Sons Growers, until 1992, when the property was purchased by the city Parks Department. She also lived in Willowbrook, Meiers Corners and Silver Lake before moving to the nursing home.
She was a medical technologist at the former Roosevelt Hospital, Manhattan, from 1945 to 1954, and in the clinical chemistry department of the former U.S. Public Health Service Hospital from 1954 to 1973. Miss Mohlenhoff was the supervisor of that department from 1973 to 1981, retiring four months after the hospital became Bayley Seton Hospital, in 1981. Later, she served as the secretary of the church from 1985 to 1993.
She held a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wagner College and, upon graduation from Port Richmond High School in 1941, was given the honor of delivering the welcome address, having achieved the "Highest Scholarship Honor for Girls."
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Port Richmond, and served on the evangelism and offering committees, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
She also sang with the Richmond Choral Society and the Wagner College Choir. At Wagner, she was a member of the Tau Lambda Chi Sorority. Later, she was a member of Wagner's alumni association.
A health and fitness enthusiast, Miss Mohlenhoff enjoyed fast walking between two and five miles each day. She ran two 10K races, one in Central Park and one in Wildwood, NJ. She enjoyed tracing the family geneology and being in touch with relatives and friends. She was a deeply religious person, her family said.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood. The Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, handled the arrangements.
