Edith was born in Rapid River, Michigan on January 21, 1921 at the family farm to Eddie and Jennie (Brannstrom) Johnson and was affectionately known as Edie Mae.
Edith was raised in Rapid River with her older sister Eileen and younger brother Eugene. She was a faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River where she was a member of the church choir. After graduating from Rapid River High School in 1939, she went on to Cloverland Commercial College in Escanaba, MI. She was employed by The USDA Soil Conservation Service in St. Paul, MN; Milwaukee, WI; Grand Haven, Saginaw and Lansing, MI for many years.
In 1955 she married Gus Belansky, of the United States Air Force in MI. The couple then moved to Staten Island, NY, where she was perpetually busy raising four children. She had a deep faith and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Great Kills.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jennie and Eddie Johnson, sister Eileen (Johnson) Case and brother Eugene Johnson.
She is survived by Gus, her beloved husband of 64 years, daughter Barbara (Belansky) Cole and son-in-law Peter Cole, daughter Carol Belansky, son Robert Belansky, son John Belansky and daughter-in-law Maureen Belansky; five grandchildren David, Caitlin and Rachel Cole; Megan and Michelle Belansky and numerous nieces and nephews that she thought about often and loved dearly; and her cousins in Sweden with whom she reconnected with a few years ago.
Edith was the last surviving grandchild of Olaf (Ole) and Catherine (Okerdalh) Johnson, Swedish immigrants to Rapid River, MI.
