Born Edith Eliott in Port Richmond, Mrs. Sause had lived in Silver Lake since 1948.
She was a 1943 graduate of Port Richmond High School.
A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Sause had been a volunteer at Richmond University Medical Center, and its predecessor, St. Vincent’s Medical Center, since 1991. She was proud of the fact that she had logged more than 10,000 hours as a volunteer there.
She enjoyed crocheting, reading, cooking and arts and crafts, but most enjoyed spending time with her three grandsons, family members said.
Family members described Mrs. Sause as a “kind, gentle, very sweet person, who was always looking to take care of others.”
Mrs. Sause is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard F. Sause Jr.; four sons, Richard, Kenneth, Gordon and Charles; two daughters, Edith Sause and Elizabeth Raqueno, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Harmon Home for Funerals, with a 10 a.m. mass at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, both in West Brighton. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
