I was blessed to know Uncle Eli for 30 years.  Jonathan & most of our church friends called him Lolo.  To me, he was simply Uncle.  And through the years he certainly became my Uncle.
Humble.  Gentle.  Generous.  Sweet.  He had a very kind, tender & sensitive heart.  He also had a big heart filled with warm love for everyone.  Uncle & Jonathan would often open up their home for parties & gatherings.  Their lovely home was our home too.  We would laugh, sing songs, pray & enjoy delicious food prepared by Uncle.  Those were special times with our family of God. 
In 2018 until Covid in 2020, I was blessed to visit Uncle a few times a week at Sea View Nursing Home.  Jonathan & I would take Uncle in the backyard & throughout the building. We would show him the fish tank & the plants & train display in the greenhouse.  We also went into the chapel. And he loved when I read the 23rd Psalm to him. He still loved certain songs & Bible verses and even though he could no longer speak with his voice, he spoke through his gentle eyes. 
Jonathan lovingly took care of his Uncle in so many ways. He would constantly speak with the staff members, buy him special pillows & clothing, give his neck a massage & always had enough apple sauce on hand in various flavors, which Uncle was able to enjoy. Uncle’s eyes would light up when he saw Jonathan.  I sometimes got a bit emotional watching them together.  The staff at Sea View also took very good care of him. 
God provided additional care & support for Uncle Eli when Pastor Dave Watson became the Chaplain at Sea View. In fact, when families were no longer allowed to visit their loved ones because of the virus, Pastor Dave was still able to check in on Uncle Eli. 
Sunday services at Sea View are a blessing to many residents and their loved ones.  Jonathan as the worship leader & Pastor Dave make an amazing team as they do at their church Calvary Chapel. By the grace of God dear Uncle Eli was still able to attend Sunday services with his pastor & his nephew. (Or more appropriately, his son.) 
Many Sundays I was so happy to attend service with Uncle. I would hold the bulletin up for him to see the song lyrics. And I would sing to him. (Funny, I would love to know what he really thought about my singing.) Uncle also attended the monthly Hymn Sing hosted by Pastor Dave, Jonathan & P.M. And dear Uncle was especially blessed by the love showered upon him by many other church friends including P.M. & Mary, Crosby & Pat, Mark & others.  

It was not an easy thing when Jonathan & I had to leave Uncle at the end of a visit.  To make things easier, I came up with a silly routine.  I would say, “Uncle, I’m going to leave now but don’t worry because Jesus is still here & He’s even better!”  And I would add, “I know that many people love you, but remember that I am your favorite niece.” (I have no proof of that.) Jonathan & I would laugh at those silly statements. Then Jonathan would pray.  And we had to walk away & trust Uncle with the Lord until the next visit.
We had to trust Uncle with the Lord one more time on Monday.  Uncle Eli had asked Jesus Christ to be his Lord & Savior so I am confident that he is in the presence of the Lord at this moment.  
I love you & miss you, my sweet Uncle.  Even though I am not going to be with you, Jesus is with you and He’s even better!  In fact, Jesus is the best!

We first met “Uncle Eli” about 33 years ago, after recently befriending his nephew, Jonathan at that time, who had invited my family and me over to meet his uncle at his apartment. Eligio’s hospitality was so heartwarming. I don’t think I’ve ever met such a gentle, friendly, loving, and kind person and host like him! 
It wasn’t long after, that Uncle Eli had given his heart to Jesus Christ. Since then, he had become the church’s “baby-holder” and an usher, serving God faithfully. He was witty, funny and so humble and meek. Not a man of many words, but whenever he spoke of Jesus, the tears would well up in his eyes, becoming speechless. He was thankful to God and loved Him wholeheartedly. His life attested to that fact, overwhelmingly. 
His health took a bad turn in his latter years, and sadly, he became immobile and unable to speak. However, he is now walking, talking, and praising Jesus, whom he loved dearly and lived for, earnestly! 
We love you, uncle Eli. We know we will see you again one day soon - on the other side. <3 




Uncle's Love for the Lord was evident.  His sensitive, meek, and humbled Spirit represented who he was in Christ.  He was a Prayer Warrior, and interceded on behalf of many he knew and loved, and prayed fervently for those he barely knew.   He was a man of few words,.  He was a Man of God.  He was reserved, with a Gentle Quiet Spirit.  He was funny and had a good sense of humor.  His laughter was contagious and brought the Spirit of God wherever he went.  

Uncle will be Dearly Missed.   I could hear Uncle speaking these words from the Word of God saying:  " 7. We know these things are true by believing, not by seeing.  8. And we are not afraid but are quite content to die, for then we will be at home with the Lord. 9.  So our aim is to please him always in everything we do, whether we are here in this body or away from this body and with him in heaven" (2 Corinthians 5:7-9, The Living Bible Version).  We Love You Uncle!  Your race is over.  I could hear God saying these words to you, "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant.  You have been faithful  and trustworthy over a little, I will put you in charge of many things; share in the joy of your master" (Matthew 25:21,  Amplified Version). 

Uncle, we will see you again and rejoice with you.  Can't wait to hear your story.  Don't worry about Jonathan, we will take Good Care of Him.  Rest now Uncle, and I know you are in Awe in the presence of Our Heavenly Father "I Could Only Imagine."  Until we meet again Uncle.  Love Stew and Rose Hines

Eligio Labajo affectionately known as uncle to all who knew and loved him was a humble servant of the Lord.
Uncle will be dearly missed, but he is now with the Lord, for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

It’s always fun to visit Tito Eli.  He enjoyed being taken out to restaurant, he loves story telling of how we cherish the toys he sends us from balikbayan box every year.

You were a blessing to all of us at Calvary, Eli.
Personally I will never forget your warm affection toward my late wife Nancy and how you cried uncontrollably when you were informed of her passing in October of 2012.
