She is survived by her husband Marcus Marino, her daughter Madison Marino, two brothers, Larry Christiansen and John Christiansen, and her sister Susan Christiansen-Friscia.
Ellen held a Master's degree in Educational Theater from NYU, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Theater from Wagner College. She was a graduate of New Dorp High School. Ellen taught high school English and theater at several New York City high schools completing her career at St. Peter's Girls High Schools until it's closing.
Ellen was active in local community theater and has performed at both Lincoln Center and Radio City Music Hall. She had also on several occasions been a panel adjudicator for the Miss Staten Island Pageant. Ellen loved classic literature and, at several of her schools, she was the coordinator for Operation Christmas Child, the Make a Wish Foundation and Operation Mail Call.
As per Ellen's wishes instead of a wake there will be a Celebration of Life Memorial, which will be held later in the year. In lieu of flowers, Ellen requests donations be made in her name, Ellen Christiansen Marino to the American Diabetes Association.
