

Ellen Mitchell, a beloved sister, dedicated nurse, and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2025, at the Eger Nursing Home in Staten Island, surrounded by her loving family. She was 67 years old.
Born on August 16, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York, Ellen spent her early years there before her family moved to Staten Island when she was 11, where she built a full and passionate life.
A Career of Compassion and Care
Ellen devoted her professional life to caring for others. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse (RN) and later as a Nurse Practitioner, leaving a legacy of compassion and skill at several major New York City hospitals, including St. Vincent's NYC, NY Presbyterian, and Lutheran Medical Center. Her dedication to her patients and her profession was a defining characteristic of her life.
The Stage, the Sea, and Creative Passions
While Ellen’s professional life was focused on healing, her heart was captivated by performance, travel, and creative pursuits. For years, she graced the stage in various Staten Island productions, showcasing her talent for acting and singing.
She was a passionate traveler, happiest when cruising the open seas and exploring new places. A lifelong fan of Disney, Ellen had a unique and spirited affection for the Disney female Villains, appreciating their theatrical flair and strength. At home, she was an avid and dedicated scrap-booker, meticulously preserving memories for herself and her family.
Family and Legacy
Ellen was preceded in death by her devoted parents, John and Ruth Mitchell.
She is survived by her loving family: her sister, Catherine Mitchell; and her brothers, Deacon Richard Mitchell and John Mitchell and his wife, Bonnie. She will also be dearly missed by her four nieces and one nephew, as well as her several great-nieces and great-nephews. Her warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
