

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Esther Randes, 91, of Dongan Hills, a retired bank employee who was devoted to family, died Thursday in Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville, where she was recovering from a shoulder injury.
Born Esther Iasparri in Jersey City, she moved to Dongan Hills 70 years ago with her husband, Thomas Randes, whom she married in 1947. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Randes worked as a bookkeeper for the reimbursement department of the Bank of Tokyo before retiring in the 1980s.
Mrs. Randes loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also an avid Yankees fan.
"You aren't just my daughter," Vivian Conroy, her daughter, fondly recalls her mother saying. "You are my best friend."
Surviving, besides her daughter Vivian, are two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, with a mass at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's R.C. Church, both Dongan Hills. Burial will follow at Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
