Eugene J. Darconte

Eugene J. Darconte, 78, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on December 19, 2024. Born in Queens, NY, in November 1946, Eugene was raised in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island, where he attended Port Richmond High School and played basketball for the school team.

After high school, Eugene enlisted in the Marine Corps and served honorably from 1966 to 1969, seeing action in the Vietnam War.

Eugene was previously married to Diane Jakubowski for 22 years, and together they raised two children, Cara and Deanna.

He had a long and successful career at Con Edison, where he worked for over 30 years.

In 2005, Eugene remarried to Gytha Bellaby. They shared a wonderful life together, traveling the world until her passing in 2015.

Eugene enjoyed watching New York sports and staying connected with family and friends.

Eugene is survived by his daughters, Cara Velez and Deanna Mielnicki and his four grandchildren, Crystal and Amber Velez, and Noah and Jakub Mielnicki. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Jo Ribas and Constance Murphy. He will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, and brother, as well as a proud veteran who served his country with honor.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
