
Lifetime Staten Island resident, lifelong seaman, 93 Ferdinand (Whiz), a lifetime Staten Island resident, passed away Dec. 16, 2021 in his home. He attended Curtis High School and graduated from the SUNY Maritime College and went on to be a lifelong seaman. He spent much of his nautical career on the Staten Island Ferry eventually becoming captain. He loved his family, the Giants, the Yankees and was an avid horse racing fan. He enjoyed spending time in the Catskills at a country home, as well as vacationing in Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine (nee Ireland); his two daughters, Charlyn and Laurie Wight; son-in-law, Harry Gardephe; grandsons, Morgan Long and Rory Merola; and his great-granddaughters, Maysa and Keeley. He is also survived by nephews, Jeffrey and Bruce Nordenholdt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation is at Harmon Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 19, from 3-7. Service will be on Monday at Harmon at 9:30 with burial to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
