

Longtime Staten Islander; 'strong, supportive, kind and witty', 101 Florence (Florrie) Ascolese, 101, passed away on March 22nd surrounded by her family. Born in Brooklyn, one of six children, Florrie graduated from Bay Ridge High School and worked as a seamstress before marrying her husband, Ray, with whom she shared 72 years of marriage until his death in 2021. Raising their two children, Florrie relished her role as homemaker and mother and excelled at cooking, sewing and entertaining, she and Ray hosting wonderful parties at their home. They moved to Staten Island in 1976 and then to Parlin, New Jersey in 2020 to live with their son and daughter-in-law. Florrie was strong, supportive, kind and witty and will be missed dearly. Surviving Florence are her son, Steve (wife Sue), daughter, Anita Proctor (husband Bob), and grandchildren Andy (wife Brandi), Peter and Gina, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from Virginia Funeral Chapel (At Casey Funeral Home), 350 Slosson Ave., Castleton Corners, on Monday, March 27th at 10am. Interment to follow in Green-Wood Cemetery.
