

West Brighton native Frank D. Fontaino, Jr., 73, of Belleville, N.J., a retired city firefighter and a 9/11 first responder who was passionate about his FDNY career, died Friday in Addeo House Hospice, Egbertville.
Mr. Fontaino lived in West Brighton for most of his life. He also lived in Westerleigh before moving to New Jersey four years ago.
He had a 28-year career in the Fire Department, retiring from Engine Co. 155 in 2002.
Mr. Fontaino was always enthusiastic about his career and loved the Fire Department, his family said. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
"He was a sweetheart,'' said his daughter, Renee Fontaino. "He was funny and was just an all-around, good-hearted man. He was always there for everyone when they needed him.''
In addition to his daughter, Renee, he is survived by his son, Frank T.; his daughter, Patricia Fontaino-Menoni; his brother, Charles; his sisters, Irene Carducci, Ann Denisi and Rose Meyers, and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, West Brighton. Arrangements include cremation.
