

George was born July 6, 1922 and raised in Queens, and graduated from Xavier High School, Manhattan. He attended UCLA for one year. He served during World War II in the Air Force in the Miltary Air Transport Service in China, Burma, and India. He attained the rank of Captain. He was in the Air Force Reserve for 10 years. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in physics and an equivalent of a masters degree in education, both from Fordham University, the Bronx. He attended New York University Graduate School of Business for a year.
Mr. Emmon worked for the New York State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation as an associates counselor in Staten Island and Queens. At a time when many people were uninformed about the benefits of rehabilitation for the mentally and physically disabled, he was instrumental in implementing the Cerebral Palsy Workshop on Staten Island and bringing the goals of the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to the attention of doctors, psychologists, physical therapists and educators. He retired in 1986.
He has been a member of the Knights of Columbus Stolzenthaler Council, Charleston, for over 50 years, the American Legion, Air Force Reserve Officers Association, New Dorp AARP, Mount Loretto Friendship Club and McGuire Air Force Officers Club. He was a member of the fathers' clubs at St. Clare's School and Moore Catholic High School, Graniteville, and he was a tax preparer for the AARP in the St. George office of the Internal Revenue Service for many years. He was also a charter member of the Great Kill Swim Club. He enjoyed watching the Military Channel. He used to play golf and was an avid reader.
George is survived by his wife of 72 years Rose Margaret Salierno, his four daughters Susan (Timothy) Rogan, Camille (Edward) McEwan, Palma (John) Brown and Denise (Joseph) Flynn six grandchildren Dawn McEwan Baber, Danielle Flynn Pantaleo, Tara Marie Rogan, Megan Flynn Mauro, Joseph Flynn, Kelley Brown and 8 great grandchildren.
