Father & grandfather who sang the music of his German heritage
George W. Krueger, 90, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2020, of natural causes. He was predeceased by his wife Joan and is survived by his children, Kirk (Marta), Kristina Castiglione (Ralph), Karl (Deanna), and six grandchildren Katherine, Kelly, Robert, Matthew, Sarah and Reilly.
Born in the Bronx, George and Joan moved to Staten Island to raise their family. George was a pioneer of the telephone company, beginning in the 1940's in the Bronx, working for various telephone companies in Northern California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, settling in New York in the late 1950's and retiring from Verizon in 1991.
George was very proud of his German heritage, being born first-generation American. He would often sing his favorite German songs. Spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, was a favorite pastime along with watching old westerns, trivia and "tinkering" around the house and yard. He was adored by many and will be missed.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral for the family will be held at Harmon Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Donations can be sent to The Humane Society, Strays Hope for Life Rescue or St. Jude Childen's Research Hospital.
