

WWII Veteran, NYPD Detective & Asst. Corporation Counsel George J. Siracuse, 101 years old, of Castleton Corners, passed away at home on December 13, 2022. He is survived by his brother, Hon. Andrew V. Siracuse, a retired New York State Supreme Court Justice, his son, Lt. Co. George J. Siracuse (USAF retired), his son, Jeffrey F. Siracuse, M.D., his daughter, Joan E. Siracuse, M.D., seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His wife, the former Prudence Sclafani, passed away in 2015. They were married for 73 years. George was born in Manhattan and moved to Brooklyn as a child. He and his family moved to Staten Island in 1964. He graduated from New Utrecht High School, St. John's University, St. John's University Law School and Brooklyn Law School. He was a member of the NYPD before joining the Army Air Corps in World War II where he was a navigator and bombardier. After World War II he returned to the NYPD and later was assigned to the Legal Bureau as a trial attorney for the Corporation Counsel's office. Attaining the rank of Second Grade Detective, he then became an Assistant Corporate Counsel. He worked in private practice as a trial attorney in medical malpractice. Visitation will be Friday December 16 at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and there will be a funeral Mass on Saturday December 17 at 10:45 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church followed by interment at New Dorp Moravian Cemetery.
