Gertrude "Trudy" Carrozza

Gertrude “Trudy” Carrozza, née Baker, 90, entered into her heavenly home on Saturday, Aug. 29th, 2026. Welcoming her there is her late husband of 58 years, Christopher Carrozza. Trudy and Chris shared an extraordinary love and devotion; they were truly each other's world. Our family is comforted knowing they are together once again, resting peacefully forever.

Trudy was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., before meeting her beloved husband and moving to Staten Island where they settled down to have a family.

Trudy devoted her life not only to her family, but also to her faith. She helped teach CCD at Holy Family Parish, where she regularly attended Mass, and she would later also attend Mass at the Alba House Society of St. Paul. Passing her faith and values on to her family was deeply important to her. Her teachings and prayers will be remembered fondly by all she taught. Trudy's faith remained a source of strength and comfort to her through her final days.

Trudy was always “home” to those who loved her. She and Chris resided in Westerleigh for most of their married life, in the same home that became a gathering place for multiple generations. It was the heart of countless holidays, birthdays, and family celebrations. Trudy warmly welcomed everyone who came through her door, often with a hot cup of tea and oatmeal cookies ready to share. She treasured living close to her family and never missed an opportunity to call or send a card for a birthday, anniversary, or special milestone. She was an exceptionally proud and devoted mother and grandmother, and the love she gave her family will remain with them always.

Trudy will be missed by her daughter, Elisa Ziel; grandchildren, Kurt C. Ziel, Jacquelynn Ziel, Christopher Carrozza, and Carlo Carrozza; daughter-in-law, June Carrozza, her two life-long best friends, Mary Doyle and Valerie Jacobson, along with many other close friends and family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Trudy was predeceased by her son, Frank Carrozza.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Trudy’s name to the Addeo Hospice House, through Northwell Health Staten Island University Hospital, where they gave compassionate care to Trudy in her final days.

A visitation will be held at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, N.Y. 10310, on Thursday, Sept. 3rd, 2026 from 4 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, Sept. 4th, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 366 Watchogue Rd, Staten Island, NY 10314, with the burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
