

Mr. Zubrich was born in Palermo, Sicily, during World War II, but his family actually came from Istria, a peninsula in the Adriatic then jointly controlled by Croatia and Italy. When he came to the United States at the age of 18, he adopted his mother's maiden name, Zubrich, as his last name. He settled first in Manhattan and later moved to Astoria, Queens.
It was at the Forest Hills Country Club in Queens where Mr. Zubrich met the former Gail Garrick. "He was the best dancer I knew," she said. The couple married in 1970 and settled in South Beach two years later. They moved to New Springville three years ago.
Mr. Zubrich worked as a machinist for Thomas C. Wilson, a company located in Long Island City, Queens. He retired five years ago.
Mrs. Zubrich was the owner of two travel agencies on Staten Island, Verrazano Travel and Master's Travel, and she and her husband had opportunities to travel the world.
Mr. Zubrich was a passionate fan of the New York Rangers and a parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church in South Beach.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Gino John Zubrich.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
