We first met Mr Belansky, Gus, through his son, Robert, who was a good friend and co-worker of my late husband, Steve Boyle. 
Robert had joined our Swedish American Lodge  Linne 429 -Vasa Order of America, and he would bring Gus and his late Mom, Edith, to the ScanFest at Vasa Park in Budd Lake every year. Both Gus and Edith enjoyed ScanFest because of Edith's Swedish Ancestry. After Edith's passing, Robert continued to bring Gus to ScanFest when Gus felt well enough.
Gus always had a camera with him and always enjoyed taking photos! He had a great store of knowledge and could talk (and talk, lol) about many diverse subjects. A very interesting man. 
Gus was proud of his Military Service and told us about his deployment in Michigan and shared the story of how he had met the Love of His Life, Edith.
 Gus was proud of his Hungarian heritage and especially proud of the lovely little Church in Tottenville which was built by his family. The Boyle Family attended a few church services there, and Gus and Robert pointed out the Belansky Family Names  in the structure of the church building.
I was particularly interested in Tottenville because my Swedish Great Aunt had lived there. We got to visit Tottenville and see the historic homes in Kreiserville and bricks in the sidewalk.
Steve visited the Belansky home on many occasions over the years because he and Robert shared common interests in antique cars and machinery. Steve was always happy to speak with Gus. They always had interesting exchanges. 
I would occasionally speak with Gus on the phone when calling to speak to Robert. He had an inquiring mind.

Barbara, Carol, Robert and John,
I’m so sorry for the loss of your dad. Gus always had a special place in my heart. As a kid I saw him as the man with the ubiquitous pipe and the ever-present camera. I’m so grateful now for his pictures because he captured some of the best of our childhood and his photos are amazing. At work, Gus was one of the computing pioneers as his bank began the transition to automation. He would love to share what he was learning there with me, knowing I was such a math nerd. This made me feel pretty special! As an adult, I thought of him as more of a friend.  We had some pretty cool talks when I’d see him in church or walking through the neighborhood. Gus is truly a “Staten Island original” and he will be missed by all of us.

Barbara, Carol, Rob, and John;
Sorry to hear of your father's passing.  As your former next-door neighbor on Great Kills Road, I remember your dad always walking around with his camera hanging from around his neck and smoking his pipe.  Always taking pictures of us kids either on our bikes, hanging out in the yard or swimming in the pool.  A couple of years ago Carol sent me copies of the pictures.  Great memories.
