Born on December 3, 1936, to Richard and Helen Bruen, Helen was raised in a loving home rooted in strong family values and Irish heritage-traditions she carried with pride throughout her life. She graduated from New Dorp High School and went on to build a life defined by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Helen was a lifelong parishioner of St. Clare, where she shared her many talents generously. She was best known as the choreographer of the St. Clare Variety Show and for her work with "Variety On The Go," a volunteer group that brought joy and entertainment to local hospitals and nursing homes. Dance was a lifelong passion, one she first discovered growing up alongside her brother Richard, and it remained a source of joy and expression for her throughout the years.
Along with her parents and sister Lillian Carchietta, Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert L. Maydich, with whom she shared 52 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2013. Together they built a warm and welcoming home centered on love, laughter, and cherished traditions.
She is survived by her four devoted daughters: Mary Bolembach (Stanley), Judith Moschella (Steven), Catherine Lombardo (John), and Clare Brown-Flynn (Christopher). Helen was a proud and loving grandmother to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her dear brother, Richard Bruen (Joan).
Helen was an avid reader, a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, and someone who found happiness in life's simple pleasures.
She treasured family gatherings and was known for her annual Christmas Tea, summer barbecues, and Easter egg hunts—traditions that will live on through the generations she nurtured.
Above all, Helen will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, her deep faith, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of kindness, joy, and togetherness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
