

Longtime Staten Islander Helenita Castro, longtime Staten Islander, passed away at her Zion Grove, Pa., home on July 1. She was 92. Born Helenita Meehan, Mrs. Castro lived in Staten Island for more than 80 years before moving to Pennsylvania in 2008. A graduate of New Dorp High School, she worked as a secretary in a publishing house. In 1950 she married Alex J. Castro and lived in Oakwood Heights for over 50 years. Mrs. Castro enjoyed painting, sketching, sculpting, and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex, and her siblings, Harold Meehan and Theresa Kane. She is survived by her brother, Wilfred Meehan; children, Glenn Castro, Suzanne Castro, and Linda Castro Matarazzo; six grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral is Saturday from Virginia Funeral Chapel, 1707 Hylan Boulevard, Dongan Hills. Funeral Mass is 9:15 a.m. St. Charles R.C. Church. Interment is in Ocean View Cemetery.
