Irene Asley, 87

Irene Asley (Sweeney), of Lahaska, Pa., passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Irene was the beloved wife of the late William J. "Bill" Asley III, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of William J. Asley IV and his wife Patricia and Barbara Partridge (Howard), and beloved grandmother of Bryan Partridge (Becca).

She was born and raised in Staten Island, and was the daughter of the late Antoinette and Frank Sweeney. She was preceded in death by her brother Frank, and is survived by her brother Richard and sister Marie, and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her high-school sweetheart Bill, Irene graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1950. She was instrumental in organizing numerous class reunions; including the 25th, 40th, 50th and even the 60th in 2010. Attendance was always high and classmates urged Irene to continue the tradition.

Irene was extremely caring and family was everything to her. Irene and Bill hosted annual St. Patrick's Day parties at their West Brighton home after the Staten Island parades, and many family parties and barbecues over the years. Irene was an accomplished cook, baker and homemaker; and she very much enjoyed welcoming others and sharing good food and conversation. Other interests included traveling with Bill, gardening and reading. Irene also worked for many years at several banks in Staten Island, and was much loved by her co-workers and regular customers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation at Harmon Funeral Home in West Brighton from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2. A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, Forest Ave at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Penn Medicine Development, 3535 Market St., Suite 750, Philadelphia, Pa. 19104.
