Irene (Margarella) McCarthy was Staten Island through and through having lived on the island for her entire life. She was born as the youngest of three to a pair of Italian American immigrants, Angelo Margarella and Rosina (Lamboglia) Margarella. She attended McKee High School and then worked for her entire career in Manhattan for Morgan Guarantee Trust. She walked every day to and from her home in Thompkinsville to the ferry to get to work. She was rewarded after a long career with a much deserved retirement. She was a lifelong Yankees fan, collecting memorabilia particularly of Lou Gehrig. She also enjoyed gambling trips to Atlantic City. Her true passion though was her family and friends. She is pre-deceased by her sister, Rose Margarella Clancy, brother in law, Elmer “Tex” Clancy, brother, Salvatore Margarella, and sister in law, Ann Dietrich Margarella. She doted on her nieces and nephews, Rosanne Clancy Barisciano, Gregory Clancy (deceased), Terri Margarella Snook, and Judy Margarella Trimarchi. She has many great nieces and nephews, including Larry Barisciano, Dillon Clancy, Austin Moss, Thomas Saddler, Jessica Saddler, and Stephanie Trimarchi, as well as great-great nieces and nephews. She was such a beloved Aunt that each of her nieces and nephews would introduce her to friends as simply Aunt Irene. The family often joked that most people only knew her as Aunt Irene and probably didn’t know her last name. She had a tremendous heart and was very generous not only with her family but with many causes, including Catholic charities, Boystown, and many animal charities.
