Irene Nugent, 96, passed away peacefully and went home to God on Sunday, February 16th.
Born Irene Spozdzial in Bayonne, New Jersey, where she eventually met the love of her life, Joe. They were married in 1948 and moved into their first and only home in 1953 in Castleton Corners. Together they raised four children – Joseph (Pat), Joyce Anarumo (Joe), Robert (Kathy) and Deborah Gardner (Tim). Irene is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Irene was an active member of St. Rita’s parish and volunteered her time at Clove Lakes Nursing Home. She worked in several places in Westerleigh and West Brighton, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Staten Island University Hospital Hospice would be appreciated.
A visitation for Irene will be held Monday, February 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314.
