Jacqueline M. McKelvey passed away on March 16, 2024, following a hard-fought battle with cancer at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She is survived by her mother, Patricia, brother, Scott (Nicole), her dearest children: Christopher (Rosemary), James (Paige), and Marisa (Douglas) and her precious granddaughter, Charlotte Grace.
Jackie grew up on Long Island in East Islip and moved to Brooklyn to start her career where she would meet her late husband, Jim, before moving to Staten Island in 1988. She is a proud graduate of St. Mary’s Elementary School (Class of 1975), St. John the Baptist High School (Class of 1979), Providence College (Class of 1983) and obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University (Class of 1986). Jackie dedicated her entire professional career to bettering the lives of children and families in New York, working for Angel Guardian and later MercyFirst for 39 years.
Jackie loved to travel the world with her mother and never met a beach she couldn’t sit on for hours and read a good (or bad) book. Always seen with a smile on her face, she would drop anything to spend time with her family & friends. Following the birth of her first granddaughter, ‘Namma’ instituted “Charlotte Wednesdays” taking the opportunity to spend the entire day catering to her every need and teaching her how to be a strong, independent, and confident little girl. Throughout her life, Jackie spent countless hours in basketball gyms, on baseball fields and soccer pitches cheering on the athletic endeavors of all her children, niece, nephews, and brother. Above everything, Jackie’s heart was filled with love for her children and adored attending Broadway plays with her daughter, Marisa and dining at any new restaurant with her son, Chris. Each Spring, one of her favorite days of the year was attending Mets Opening Day which turned into an annual tradition with her younger son, James, and created countless enduring memories.
Our hearts are heavy, but also full of love and gratitude for all that she was and will continue to be to us…
